"Perfect for fans of Lisa Gardner, Mary Higgins Clark, and Jenny Milchman, Someone Is Watching is a pulse-pounding, edge-of-your-seat novel of suspense that features the extraordinary storytelling gifts of bestselling author Joy Fielding on full display"-- "Deeply shaken after a brutal attack, Bailey Carpenter struggles to reclaim control over what had once seemed like a neatly-ordered life. Unable to face her job, her friends, or even the world outside her apartment, Bailey is trapped with her thoughts, replaying the attack in a desperate search for a detail that will help the police uncover the identity of her unknown assailant. Bailey sees her attacker in the face of every stranger, and is unable to trust anyone other than her half-sister, Claire, and Claire's snarky teenage daughter Jade. To pass the time in her lonely apartment, Bailey plays with the binoculars she once used in her career as a private investigator, scanning the high-rise buildings around hers for entertainment. She quickly discovers a favorite source: a handsome, wealthy playboy in the apartment across the street. But she watches him strut around his bedroom, she starts to wonder if he's putting on a show - with her as his intended audience. Looking out the window late one night, she sees him looking tauntingly right back at her, binoculars in hand. Could it be the assailant she's been so desperate to identify has been right there, watching her, the whole time? The police, exasperated after Bailey's many paranoid false alarms, believe she's crying wolf, and Claire tries to convince her she's wrong. Doubting her own sanity, Bailey has only Jade left to turn to, and together the two hatch a dangerous plot to discover just what exactly is going on in the apartment across the way"--… (altro)

Joy Fielding is a name that I recognize from books at my mother's place( I have browsed her bookshelves many times during the years). However, I haven't read a Joy Fielding before I read this book. And funny enough, neither has my mom. I guess we both like to hoard books.

Someone Is Watching is a thrilling and chilling book about a woman who is attacked and raped, never seeing the man's face, just remembering small details about him. She is struggling after the assault to return to a normal life, and just leaving the apartment becomes an obstacle. And, every man she sees could be the rapist. She starts to observe a neighbor across her street with her binoculars. And, she becomes more and more obsessed with that. And, she starts to think that the man in questions is watching her too...

What I liked about this book, besides the whole is Bailey crazy or is the neighbor really watching her storyline, is that Joy Fielding has created an interesting backstory for Bailey that adds intrigue to the story. She together with her brother is the youngest children of a man that has been married three times and with children from each marriage. He died four months prior and left all assets to Bailey and her brother. However, their five is now contesting the will. This adds drama to the story. I did, I have to admit suspect some of the twists in the book, but I was so caught up in the story that I didn't mind that so much. I found the book to be hard to put down and for me was it a real page-turner. So, I guess I have to check out the Joy Fielding books that my mom has. I really want to read more from her!

I want to thank the publisher for providing me with a free copy for an honest review! ( )

This book grasped me from the beginning and I read into the wee hours to finish it. Bailey Carpenter is a Private Investigator for a Law Firm. While out doing surveillance one night she is brutally assaulted and raped. Her purse with her gun, identification, keys etc. is stolen and her life of fear begins. Every man she sees could be the rapist. She is also dealing with her half-siblings, suing her and her drug addled brother for part of their father's estate. When Clair, her oldest sibling begins to help her things start to settle down. Claire convinces her to see a counsellor and that spurs Bailey on to try and investigate her own situation. Claire and her daughter Jade eventually move in but Bailey's anxiety attacks and hallucinations continue. As the three of them watch the apartment across the way through binoculars and see beatings and rapes, the police begin to think Bailey is more and more unstable. This book has some great twists to it. The characters were believable and my feelings about them changed constantly as my suspicions changed. I did not figure this one out until the end. Suspenseful to the end. A great book. ( )

Well written story of deception and PSTD after a rape. Will keep you guessing (although I did suspect early in the book!). ( )
