Well written, interesting character you rooted for, world-building not same-old-same-old, no inexplicable love triangles or endless teenage angst despite main character's age (16) at start of this series. Angels and religion get to be angels and religion versus an almost unrecognizable paranormal race or mythology--except afterlife disturbingly left to chance so that if main character and her people are around when you die you go to heaven but if bad guys around you get taken to hell. The only reason I'm not rating higher is that there are areas of plot/action where both good guy rescues and bad guy threats are rather out of nowhere (can we all chant deus ex machina?). Not the best writing/plot to just have people popup as you need them. Looking forward to reading next book in series and have high hopes for series overall (could get really good if author does a good story arc; could suck if just degenerates into mysterious aid always appearing or adventure after adventure of characters on a quest for others with her powers just going from place to place -- but we'll see) nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

HTML:Half-human, half-angel, Meridian Sozu has a dark responsibility. Sixteen-year-old Meridian has been surrounded by death ever since she can remember. As a child, insects, mice, and salamanders would burrow into her bedclothes and die. At her elementary school, she was blamed for a classmate's tragic accident. And on her sixteenth birthday, a car crashes in front of her family home--and Meridian's body explodes in pain. Before she can fully recover, Meridian is told that she's a danger to her family and hustled off to her great-aunt's house in Revelation, Colorado. It's there that she learns that she is a Fenestra--the half-angel, half-human link between the living and the dead. But Meridian and her sworn protector and love, Tens, face great danger from the Aternocti, a band of dark forces who capture vulnerable souls on the brink of death and cause chaos. Sort of like your average ghost story (the Mediator by Meg Cabot, Haunting Emma by Lee Nichols, etc.) but sorta not.
The Characters: 4/5
Meridian: is a believable character. She had believeable reactions to things.
Tens: Uh… why was he so mean to her in the beginning?
Auntie: sweet old lady. Sweet, sweet old lady.
Sammy: I think we should’ve gotten to know Sammy better, or he should’ve had a more active role in the plot of the book. Take Ethan from the Iron King. That was a little brother done well.
Perimo: One of the best characters, if you ask me. But then again, I do love my antagonists. Especially when they’re creepy like this. :D
The Romance: 2.5/5
Ah, instalove. You all know I usually take it, and I did enjoy Tens, but I didn’t believe this romance. Plus, I felt like I’ve read it somewhere before. It might be that I read half of this book about three years ago, but I also think that’s just an overdone concept. Have the boy start out really mean and the have the two characters fall I love. Correct me I I’m wrong, but didn’t that happen in Haunting Emma a little bit? Also, the Summoning trilogy.
1 point extra credit for being set in Colorado.
Overall grade: 10/15. A solid C. Not a bad book, but nothing exceptional, either. Exceedingly average.
