Metafísica dels tubs, El sabotatge amorós, Biografia de la fam, Estupor i tremolors, Ni d'Eva ni d'Adam (per ordre cronològic biogràfic) [b:Pétronille|22469404|Pétronille|Amélie Nothomb|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1450640428s/22469404.jpg|41909457] feels like a string of unrelated anecdotal scenes until it has you by the throat in a choke hold, and you realize a little too late that something very serious is going on here. How does Nothomb do that? She first disarms by making me think I'm reading something breezy and inconsequential. There are an abundance of comic set pieces in this short novel, one after another, my favorite being a traumatic, hilarious account of an interview the character Amélie Nothomb conducts with Vivienne Westwood and her poodle. It's a story that could win New Journalism awards if this weren't fiction. But even as I'm laughing I'm also being seduced and compelled by Nothomb's story of a vibrant, intimate, unsettling friendship that goes horribly awry, a story that touches all the ways we can find delight in a friendship, and be hurt by it. A wonderful novel by a unique storyteller. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Amélie Nothomb is one of Europe's most successful and talked about authors. Hygeine and the Assassin, her first published novel, became a phenomenon, occupying a unique position in the world of French and international fiction. Delightful and witty, Pétronille is further proof of Nothomb's versatility and brilliance. With wry humor and a deceptively simple style, Pétronille tells an unusual story about twin abiding passions: one for champagne, and the other for a riotous friendship between her protagonist and Pétronille Fanto, a woman who refuses to drink alone. This is a funny, moving, "exotic" novel about travel, France, champagne, and, above all, about women's friendship. The on-again/off-again friendship between Pétronille and the main character in the book, who happens to be a writer by the name of Amélie Nothomb, gives the story its verve and the novel its heart. This is literaryThelma & Louise, with a little bit of French panache and a whole lot of champagne thrown in. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
