An excellent short story providing background for the entire parasol protectorate series. Stands alone very well.
Multi-voiced audio is clear and well done. (

I first started with this story before I had read even one book in The Parasol Protectorate series. That didn't feel right, so I stopped and started again after reading the five books of The Parasol Protectorate. Now I enjoyed the story more. I think you can read it after book 3, but I am glad I waited till the end. It is a nice story that gives some insight in Alessandro Tarabotti, but I felt that the end wasn't really an end and I kinda hoped for more. But I enjoyed the story. (

A prequel to the Parasol Protectorate series. The story was helpful.

Note on audiobook production: The audiobook production was lacking, however, I did like the attempt at an old timey radio show style presentation. The readers were a bit rushed. (

Hmmm, this is an interesting tidbit as far as it impacts the ongoing Parasol Protectorate, and as a momentary insight into Alexa's pa. It's not, alas, a super strong story in it's own right, but it does present intriguing possibilities.

Ostensibly in Egypt to get his aunt's deceased cat mummified, Alessandro Tarabotti is on a secret mission.

Although it's not made explicit, this is presumably the story of how Alexia's parents met. (
