Bessel Vav Der Kolk è uno psichiatra di fama internazionale e in questo lavoro di grande complessità prova a ricostruire lo stato della scienza nello studio del rapporto tra traumi psichici e danni cerebrali e fisici. Lo stesso titolo anticipa la prima conclusione, ossia che tutti noi rimaniamo vittime dei nostri traumi, spesso in maniera inconsapevole, con danni che non riusciamo a valutare fintanto che non si trasformano in malattia. Il secondo punto è la valutazione delle modalità con cui affrontare i traumi, ossia le terapie necessarie a garantire una vita normale a chi è stato vittima di fatti violenti. E Van der Kolk prende le distanze dai metodi terapeutici di natura farmacologica, proponendo di approfondire sistemi di dialogo e di gestione del proprio corpo. Molto interessanti sono anche le conclusioni con le quali lo psichiatra olandese invade il campo della politica dimostrando come il costo sociale del disadattamento non viene mai preso in considerazione, schiacciato dalle paure dell’opinione pubblica. Questo libro non è semplice, in quanto spesso ha una matrice tecnica ed è, chiaramente, molto specialistico, ma molto interessante e denso di spunti. ( )
