This held my attention and I couldn't predict how things would play out. Good growth for the characters and their relationship as well. ( ) I have enjoyed this series very much, but this one... In some series wherein we have an established couple, often the action is reactive, and the couple grows just a bit as a team. This pair have had to adjust each time, and in #3, it's very darned serious and upsetting and almost otherworldly at times. I bet if I'd known more about the oak and holly ritual, it would have meant even more to me, but even as it was, that scene had my hairs on end. If you have not read this series, give it a try. I've loved every character so far, even the terrifying ones. The plots are great, the dialogue's wonderful. And they just keep getting better! Last in the series (although I'm hoping not forever) and a solid story to to finish things off with a hint as to what the future might hold. I love this couple. They are a solid five stars for me, as are Harper Fox's descriptions of Cornwall and the various oddities that the boys come up against in their journey. And for that I must give the series as a whole five stars. What drops each individual story is that they all seem to touch in some way on child abuse, a subject that normally has me closing a book faster than anything. Luckily in these books the subject is neither graphic nor dealt with in a heavy handed manner a combination that allowed me to continue reading. That I love Lee and Gideon so much helped too. "I dunno, sweetheart. We might not be out of the woods yet.” “How many times do I have to tell you?” Lee shifted round on the sofa and pounced, sending his chess pieces flying. “I like the woods.” There's something so comforting and soft about this pair-despite whatever creepiness they face. Gideon's grounding and Lee's understanding. Fox's gorgeous and purposeful writing. It's just so wonderful to spend a couple hours with them. "but—” “Hush up. This is the one time when I’m telling you to let all your feelings and visions go and trust in my reality.” Last in the series (although I'm hoping not forever) and a solid story to to finish things off with a hint as to what the future might hold.
