On his first day in office, newly-elected President Stephen Blades was expecting to dive into the various critical issues facing the nation: war, looming economic collapse, and a failing health care system - a typical Presidency, in other words. But by the end of that first day, Blades has learned a single truth that redefines "critical": seven years prior, NASA discovered a potentially aggressive alien presence in the asteroid belt, and his predecessor Commander-in-Chief decided to keep it a secret from the world. A mission crewed by nine heroic astronauts was sent to discover what's actually up there, and they're getting close to learning the truth - assuming their increasingly damaged and frail ship, the Clarke, can hold itself together long enough to reach their destination. Stephen Blades has just become the most powerful man on the planet. This planet.… (altro)

Intriguing premise. I initially thought the politics would detract from the first contact story, but man, oh man, it was much better than I expected.

I like the mystery surrounding the aliens, too. I especially enjoyed the dynamic between the astronauts. The President's story, meanwhile, was compelling in the generic drama sort of way, but the twists made it far more interesting than expected.

Good beginning. Can't wait to read more. ( )

When newly elected President Blades entered office, he didn't think life would be easy. He didn't expect to learn about aliens, possibly/probably planning some kind of invasion, and a secret space mission to study the aliens.

This was surprisingly good. I was a bit skeptical, because lately I wasn't having to much luck with my comics, but this story really good capture my attention. It's part political intrigue and part space mission, and the latter was the most interesting one for me. The crew has been in space for several years and new problems have arisen. Not to mention the pregnancy of one of the crewmembers.

Maybe not the most original work out there, but I enjoyed myself a lot while reading it and I'm curious as to how this will continue.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review! ( )

I'm a big fan of sci-fi and highly enjoyed the first volume of this series. The tension in the plot builds ever so slowly, and a couple of times I was tempted to flip ahead. I can't wait to finish the next two volumes, and I hear volume 4 is coming soon. ( )

When the 44th President takes office he finds a letter from the 43rd, a letter that changes everything. NASA discovered an alien presence and a secret mission of astronauts and scientists was launched into space to investigate. While the president has his own problems here on earth--the economy, foreign wars, telling this secret to the public--the astronauts have their own problems living together in such a small space for so long.

This book was so cool. I loved the juxtaposition of the everyday political with this higher secret and the way it drives people. I also loved everything that happened on the space ship, all the ways the people responded to living in this small space with so few people for so long.

I most especially loved 44's own letter.

This comic has been on my tbr for a while so when Netgalley had it available as part of a re-release I grabbed the chance to read it.

The plot revolves around the inauguration and new term of Pres. Blake (44th US pres.) and a group of astronauts who’ve been sent to see what they can find about an alien structure. It pulls heavily from 2008 US politics but puts a spin on it. I really enjoyed this one and am excited to see where it leads. ( )
