Wonderful and short little book that demonstrates the importance of imagination. Being creative can take you anywhere. You can be whatever you want to be! Loved the illustrations as well, super bright and colorful. ( ) In class we read "Piggybook" and it sheds light on sexism which is still very prevalent. This story focuses on gender roles but without seeming so. When we read "Piggybook" I thought about gender roles and I think its important especially with our youth today to talk about because when we knock down walls in regards to gender roles we also start to knock down walls in relation to sexism. I think kids are very susceptible to gender roles and they naturally desire to do what feels fun and right to them but can be boxed in by gender roles and societal expectations. "Not Every Princess" uses mythical creatures, and play characters to talk about how kids can be whatever they want even if they do not fit that role. In the back of the book their is a note to parents and caregivers that I especially like. It talks about gender roles, societal expectations, and defying the mold that is often expected of us to fit into. It talks about the point of the story and how the book can be used to help children. The vivid images are engaging and light up the whole page. This is a great book about individuality and breaking free from gender stereotypes. There is an additional note at the end of the book that provides parents or caregivers strategies on how to encourage their children to be true to who they are and not feel the need to conform. I think that this is a subject that could be covered in social studies and that we could use the same, if not similar prompts. I think this book is appropriate for any age group. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
