Thrilling, disturbing and incredibly moving, this is one of those books that you keep thinking about even when you aren't reading it. I'm very surprised that more people haven't heard of this book. Lawyer Francoise Chevalier travels to a war-torn country to defend "The Monster" - a man accused of horrific war crimes and worse. But the Monster refuses to speak to Francoise, or anyone else. In alternating chapters, we see the unraveling of the lives of both the Monster and Francoise, both men with sociopathic tendencies. This book asks questions about what is excusable in times of war, and what separates men from becoming monsters even in the best circumstances. I could not put this book down. It's a riveting read. The character depictions are moving, and full of idiosyncrasies that make them believable. I would absolutely recommend this book. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

A prisoner known as the Monster, refuses to speak and behind prison bars, awaits his trial. A foreign lawyer, who came to assist him, seeks to uncover the reasons behind his mutism and the circumstances surrounding his crimes. What if there was nothing to understand ? What if the madness of ordinary men had paved the way for the birth of the Monster ? On the trail of his client, in a country just barely recovering from a fratricidal war, the lawyer is plunged against his will into the heart of a tragedy. A tale of adventure, a love story, a philosophical quest, HOW TO BECOME A MONSTER reads like a detective novel in which each person is both guilty and innocent. This vividly inspired and powerful work casts a lucid look at the human condition with its darker parts, but also its moments of redemption. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |
