This was a quick but enjoyable retelling of The Princess and the Pea that had a fun surprise twist. I plan to look into more of this authors books. ( ) Review of eBook Determined to find a bride for the prince, the king and queen set up a contest to find a suitable princess. With the help of the chief minister of the court, they make a giant bed with a mile high pile of mattresses. Beneath the bottom mattress, the chief minister placed one tiny dried pea. Soon princesses from everywhere form a line, waiting for their turn to sleep in the giant bed atop all those mattresses. Each evening a new princess enters the palace, climbs up the ladder, and sleeps on top of the pile of mattresses. Each morning the princess climbs down the ladder, reports her good night’s sleep, and finds herself sent out of the palace. After dispatching the last princess, the king and queen are surprised to discover a disheveled tomboy waiting for her turn. After much discussion, they decide to let Princess Tuppence, daughter of King Candlestick Maker, sleep atop the mile-high pile of mattresses. Will Princess Tuppence feel the pea, proving herself worthy to become the prince’s bride? ========= This imaginative retelling of the Hans Christian Andersen literary fairy tale is sure to make readers chuckle, especially with the twist at the end of the story. The quick-read story is cute and clever; for readers who remember the Rocky and Bullwinkle series, think Fractured Fairy Tale. Then be prepared to grin.
