this is good book for kids to see how competition for ego and pride can destroy lives. ( )

This is the story of three elements of earth battling to see who is the greatest. First, wind shows how it feels it is the greatest by showing his powers with the wind. Then fire shows how he feels he is the greatest, and doesn't stop when told to. Finally, rain has to show that being the gentlest is the greatest, and she defeats fire. That is why fire hisses when rain hits it.

This was a wonderfully illustrated book. I loved the story of different elements being personified as people. It showed the areas of Africa and this is the story of how rain is the gentlest from a Nigerian author.

This would be a great story to share with a multicultural student group. Also, this would be neat to talk about different seasons in different countries. This is a great folk lore story. It could be used with mulitple units. ( )
