Engaging alphabet books are perennial bestsellers with unlimited demand, and so are books about fire trucks. This splendid book is a surefire winner! As in their previous collaborations, the Woods bring lowercase letters to life in a fun adventure that is sure to have children learning their alphabet without even realizing they are studying. In this action-packed adventure, we witness the lowercase letters as they save the day and the uppercase letters. Riding in a fire truck they fixed themselves, these lowercase letters become heroes with firehoses! -- GoodReads

Summary:
HELP! THERE'S A FIRE!
*Firetruck sirens*
After a great school year of helping Charley learn his letters, the little letters go on another fun adventure.
(YAY!)
When Charley's letters arrive at Alphabet city, they meet the big (capital) letters. The Charley's little letters asked the capital letters about their firetruck and even play with the fire hose. The fire hose whipped around and made a huge mess. "Fire hoses are for big letters only! Go play somewheres else" Fire Chief 'F' exclaimed! The Charley's letters did. Charley's letters discovered a broken fire truck. In no time, with teamwork, the letters fixed up the broken firetruck.
They rode around in the fire engine washing down a dirty car with the fire hose and even helping 3 letter that got stuck in a tree. Those three letters were 'c', 'a', and 't'.
ANGRY SMOKE FILLED THE SKY! FIRE! FIRE! On the way to the fire, Charley's little letters saw the capital letters' firetruck flipped upside down with a flat tire. The capital letters climbed in the little letters' firetruck and rushed to the fire. They put out the fire and saved all of the little e's that were trapped inside of the building.
Charley's little letters were always welcomed at the firehouse anytime!

Illustrations:
The illustrator, Bruce Wood, drew the art for all 3 of the alphabet series (as listed below). Each book has something hidden inside the art. You can do a lesson, for children, on just the art of all 3 of these books. For this book, Alphabet Rescue, he included silly things for children to catch.
If you look closely you can catch 'i' is eating ice cream, 'm' is looking at a mirror, 'h' is using the hammer to fix the firetruck, and 'r' is playing with some rope. The fire chief was a capital 'F'. In the tree, the letters 'c', 'a', and 't' were stuck. This is a play off of "a cat stuck in a tree", which brings laughter to the readers when their light-bulb turns on when they make this association.

Learning:
Great book for children who are mastering the alphabet along with capital vs. lower case. The art can teach children that 'f' is for fire chief, 'r' is for rope, and 'i' is for ice cream. Bruce Wood did a fantastic job with the art that which teaches children their letters and what they stand for in a creative way (in all of his books).

Yes, this book has a series. Check out what happens when Charlie's letters go on more adventures.

Genre: Informational
Review: This is a good informational book because it teaches kids about the alphabet, and what upper and lowercase letters look like and are in a fun and mysterious way.
Summary: This book is about how lower case letters of the alphabet are frustrated because the upper case letters will not allow them to have any fun. This book is about what the lower case letters will do to rebel against the uppercase letters.
