Fly Guy takes a trip to the nearest fire station and shows what firefighters do.

This is a good book for beginning readers. It explains with words and photos what firefighters do, what equipment they use, and how they stay in shape. What is nice is that a lot of little kids want to be firefighters and this shows what is involved and that anyone can be a firefighter. I also learned a few things I did not know (no, I'm not going to say what I didn't know!)

I look forward to more books in this series. ( )

Fuck this book. Pedantic shit about firefighters with an ugly kid and his friend "fly guy" tacked on (fly guy is a friend who says things like "yezzzzz" and "hozzzze"). Exactly the type of reason why graded readers became a sad joke. ( )

Summary
Fly Guy and Buzz go on a trip to the fire station. They learn about fire safety, firefighters, and fire trucks. They explain to readers what firefighters do while they are working and provide images of life as a firefighter.

Personal Reaction
I have a great respect for firefighters because my dad was a firefighter. My friends thought his job was awesome, but I looked past the heroic duties and focused on the times he missed my school plays and ball games. As I matured I understood his duties and why he missed important events in my life. Now that I am grown I respect their service and married a man who became a firefighter. My life is surrounded my firefighters because my dad inspired my husband and brother in law to become firefighters.

Extension Ideas
1.A firefighter could come to the classroom and explain fire safety and show the children their gear they wear inside a burning building.
2.We could practice a fire drill so the students are familiar with what to do in case of a fire.
3.The class could take a trip to the fire station and see the fire trucks just like Buzz and Fly Guy.
