( ![]() Although there is a murder in this book, the plot revolves around the everyday life of three mothers and that is why I was so surprised to find this book so entertaining from beginning to end. It is not the kind of plot I usually read about, but I was completely invested in the lives of these three different and well-developed main characters. The best part of this book were the characters. I even liked the comments of the other characters while they were being interviewed about the events before the accident. I also admire how the author managed to balance humor with difficult subjects, like domestic abuse. It managed to go from light-hearted to serious without making it look weird and out of place and that is difficult to do. Some aspects of the plot where a bit predictable but the revelation towards the end still caught me off guard. I liked this book, but I didn't love it. I found far too many things I wanted to change, edit out, condense. I wanted Moriarty to move the story forward more quickly or perhaps explore the more important parts of the story and less of the school/mommy culture. Perhaps it is an age issue. If I had children in grammar school perhaps I would know (and therefore care) about the Blonde Bobs or the school politics. She had an opportunity to make an impression on some important issues. One of those was school bullying and how it affects children and parents. She skimmed over that or treated it in too unrealistic a way. Some character reactions just seemed off base or over the top to me. In her defense, she did give us a strong ending, one that resonated, and one that addressed an important issue in domestic violence. I was also glad that there were elements of the ending that were surprising and which I had not predicted. I waited three months to get this from the library. I expected more and felt a bit let down, but I would not discourage others from reading it as I believe it is one of those books that might heavily depend on what the reader brings to it. This book needs to be made into a movie!!! I liked her other book, The Husband's Secret but this story surpasses that one by a mile! Totally did not see the ending coming. Moriarty is excellent at writing from several different points of view and intertwining all the characters in a seamless group. She may be one of my new favorite authors. Maybe a little longer than necessary. About 2/3rds through I wanted to scream WHO DIED ALREADY?! I mean suspense is great, but yeesh. But great storytelling that made me wish I had a couple hours a day to read. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

A murder... a tragic accident... or just parents behaving badly? What's indisputable is that someone is dead. But who did what? Big Little Lies follows three women, each at a crossroads: Madeline is a force to be reckoned with. She's funny and biting, passionate, she remembers everything and forgives no one. Her ex-husband and his yogi new wife have moved into her beloved beachside community, and their daughter is in the same kindergarten class as Madeline's youngest (how is this possible?). And to top it all off, Madeline's teenage daughter seems to be choosing Madeline's ex-husband over her. (How. Is. This. Possible?). Celeste is the kind of beautiful woman who makes the world stop and stare. While she may seem a bit flustered at times, who wouldn't be, with those rambunctious twin boys? Now that the boys are starting school, Celeste and her husband look set to become the king and queen of the school parent body. But royalty often comes at a price, and Celeste is grappling with how much more she is willing to pay. New to town, single mom Jane is so young that another mother mistakes her for the nanny. Jane is sad beyond her years and harbors secret doubts about her son. But why? While Madeline and Celeste soon take Jane under their wing, none of them realizes how the arrival of Jane and her inscrutable little boy will affect them all.
