This is another of those stories that it is hard to write a review about. It is very difficult to not give away a major plot device. Daniel has never stopped loving Harry but he just can’t forgive him for leaving. He wanted Harry to be safe and the only way to do that was for Harry to go back to England. Daniel just can’t seem to get past Harry leaving. There were times I wanted to shake Daniel until his teeth raddled. You can have Harry and keep him in a war zone. I know that Sir Barnabas James got rid of Harry hoping that Daniel would finally come to love him but Daniel never seems to realize this. Daniel does come around but heavens he makes everyone miserable while he makes up his mind.
Harry isn't completely free of blame in this relationship. He did just leave without much of a fight. I understand why he left his wife in England while he went to America. Harry was hoping to earn enough money so he wouldn't be dependent on his father’s money. This is something Daniel never realizes. Harry needed to be independent in order to live the life he wanted. Unfortunately that meant that he had to get married so he would money to strike out on his own and become independent. Also his time in America taught him how to take care of himself and those that he loved. I liked Harry’s persistence and patience. I also liked that he is a caring and compassionate man.
We are introduced to a new character in this story, Robert Manderlay. Robert is a boyhood friend of Daniel and a constable. Robert saves Christy from being kidnapped and he comes to care for her as the story moves along. I like him very much. He is a protector. I think that he will make Christy a very good husband.
I had thought that Simon might finally have found someone to love. He was very taken with Christy in the beginning but he just couldn't come up to scratch. We get a very small glimpse into why he doesn't want a relationship, but that glimpse is not enough to tell what happen to damage him so badly. I had hoped that he would form a menage relationship with Christy and Robert. Simon needs someone to show him that love can overcome so much.
Someone else that needs to find companion is Dr. Peters. I am glad that his story is next. The man is haunted by the war and someone needs to pull him out of his bad dreams before he drinks himself to death.
There are places in this story that read like a three stooges movie, if it can go wrong it will and sometimes with amusing results. There are also some very sad places. Be warn that this is a m/m romance so that is what most of sexual encounters are. There is one scene between Simon and Christy. While there is a mention of bondage and Harry is definitely the dominant partner there is no other domination and submission in this story. ( )
