Un peu trop invraisemblable pour croire à cette histoire, dommage ( ) This is the second book in the Saratoga Woods series that takes place on Whidbey Island in Washington state. Becca King has been left on the island by her mother to escape her mother's husband and Becca's step-father who has been responsible for his partner's death back in San Diego. In this installment Becca is on the outs with her boyfriend Derric and is living in a tree house on the property of Seth Darrow's grandfather, Ralph Darrow, to escape notice of her step-father. The plot centers on the seal Nera's annual visit around which the town has a festival. One man wants to kill the seal because she has caused him injury. A Ph.D. marine biologist was to take skin and DNA samples from the seal to discover what she is since she has all black skin and has a very old style transmitter attached. Seals get new skin frequently which means transmitters are shed with them. Others want to stop them at all costs. There is also a lost girl, Cilla, who seems to have an unusual amount of stamina since she was abandoned on a beach by her supposed parents. Becca is still dealing with the whispers and ends up working with Jenn McDaniels to discover Nera's secret. "The Edge of the Water" is the second novel in Elizabeth George’s YA trilogy about Becca King and her friends on Whidbey Island. A special seal traditionally arrives at the island every year, a seal that is so special that the community has an annual festival surrounding its appearance. This year, however, a marine biologist who is looking to make her scientific name has also appeared, along with a mysterious, mute young woman who appears to have no history anywhere. Meanwhile, Becca’s main enemy, Jenn, is now her BFF, her boyfriend Derric has broken up with her and is dating a Christian cheerleader, and her friend Seth is trying to help his ex-girlfriend’s family when that family refuses to acknowledge that they need his help. And Becca is still hiding from her murderous stepfather, as well….Middle novels in trilogies are often tricky because they tend to have no real beginning or end, but still have to move the narrative forward; I didn’t find that to be a problem in this case because the action takes place some time after the events of the first novel and therefore the story has already moved on, really. I like the relationships here, and although I solved the central puzzle very early on, that’s generally because I know the legends on which the puzzle is based. Overall, a good read, but you need to have read "The Edge of Nowhere" first! nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
