The writing is superb and is almost able to hide the absence of any and all logic and common sense throughout the plot as well as character decisions.

There is an incredible amount of stupidity as well as plain contradiction going on in plot construction and the sheer endless pile of absurd plot devices.
The same is the case for the world-building.
Not to mention the staggering number of plot conveniences.

Still, an incredible intuitive writing talent in terms of human-seeming characters and especially emotions. ( )

This book made me feel like I was right there in New Orleans with Adele. I love when I read a book and can actually feel like I am living in it, and that is exactly what this book did for me.

The Author went to great lengths with her research, the writing was phenomenal, and the editing was perfect.
It would be very hard to go back to a place that was once your home and try to start all over from the ground up, but that is exactly what Adele and her father do. Adele finds out she has more ties to New Orleans then she could have not even imagined, when she comes across a journal from one of her ancestors.

I could not put this book down once I got started on it; I had to know what was going to happen next, so hang on folks because this is such a wonderful journey you will be happy you took! I recommend this book to anyone who loves to live virtually through a book.

The story started with Adele le Moyne going back to New Orleans after it was hit by a storm – which is not an ordinary storm because it was stronger and the damage it created was terrible. There are three parts to this story. The first part was slow for me, but it is okay because, through Adele, I was able to imagine how the post-storm image of New Orleans looks like. And as she walks down the streets, I understand how she felt when she witnessed how her so-called home was destroyed and see what was left. I loved how Adele described the city because the place seems really beautiful based on how she talked about it.

The second part was where I was having a journey between the present and Adeline’s time. She was an ancestor of Adele. And Adele has been translating Adeline’s diary to get some clues about the mysterious things that were happening in her. I like this part of the story because of how the diary entries were written. It really feels like I was with Adeline as she talked about her journey from Paris to New Orleans. And the narration on those diary entries was fantastic. I am always craving for Adeline’s story whenever I was transported back in the present with Adele.

The last and third part was where I got the chance to know the reason why Brigitte, Adele’s mom, left New Orleans to stay in Paris and leave Adele and his dad together. This part was where everything picks up fast. Every question of Adele has been answered here, and the secrets and mysteries were finally free and discovered.

I like the story. It is unique. It has a good plot, likable characters, and a beautiful setting. The way this book was written is amazing. There are details in the story which doesn’t seem important, but will eventually make sense once you read the part where it was either used or explained. The story also debunks some myth about this monster, though I think I need more background on them, which I hope to read in the second book.

For the characters, I love them all! You will either hate them or love them on each scene. Talking about the main character. Adele was confusing because she always changes her mind most of the time, and her anxiety added more to it. Sometimes, I feel her, and sometimes, I just want to whack her in the head to make sense. Though, she’s not that bad.

Actually, there are a lot of characters in the story. There is Isaac, Desiree, Gabe/Gabriel, Niccolo/Nicco, Emile, and etc. But, you can clearly remember what scene they showed up and who they are. One of the side characters that I love is Ren. There was a part where I felt like I’m transported to another story because of how he tells it. He is really good at it. And there is also Blanche. I find it funny on how I read his dialogues because I felt like I’m in his character every time he speaks!

Now, let’s talk about what somehow disturbs me. It is the romance in the story. I like most of the romances in here except for one thing, the love triangle. It is supposed to be okay if Adele can show me whom she really likes. Whom she ends up at the end doesn’t give me peace because I know, she also has a liking on the other one! It feels to me that she only chose the other one because it feels like the right thing to do. But, anyway, I still want to know on the other books if whom she will really end up with.

Overall, The Casquette Girls is a YA Paranormal Romance that I recommend to everyone who likes a unique tale and a trip to New Orleans. This book is also suitable for teens because there is no sex and no foul language. I am looking forward to reading the second book. ( )
