"Life in the jungle can be both beautiful and savage... A lush paradise when viewed from a distance, providing camouflage to a daily Hell of trials and survival for those who live there. Portrayed as a day in the life of the king of the jungle, this lavishly illustrated story follows a single majestic tiger through a wordless adventure as it hunts prey and defends itself from other would-be killers defending their own territory. A graphic novel without words, that depicts a day in the life of a tiger. They hunt for a meal, avoid animals that could hurt them, and are observed by other residents of the jungle.

The illustrations here are absolutely stunning, down to every leaf and raindrop. The movement of the animals is captured perfectly. The “facial expressions” are a bit exaggerated but that’s necessary for a comic. However, the story is not great. This must be an especially stupid tiger because they spend a lot of time chasing (and missing) one tapir, and then kill a leopard that attacks them but don’t bother to eat any of it, then can’t manage to avoid a lusty elephant that they could have heard coming from a mile away. In the end they eat a human, which tigers only do when they are very desperate. Why was this tiger so desperate when it didn’t eat an already-dead leopard? It doesn’t make much sense. This book was originally published in French and it’s not stated who translated the few sentences of writing at the beginning, explaining why the series is called “love”, but they don’t make any sense. It was beautiful to look at and I’m not mad I read it, but I don’t think I’ll continue with the other 3 books in the series. ( )

Beautifully illustrated!! There are words only on the first and last pages and the art work beautifully and dramatically tells the story of a day in a Tiger's life. ( )

The only words in this book are at the beginning and end. Powerful, gorgeous artwork, but not all the panels will make you happy, especially the last. ( )

A day in the life of the king of the jungle.

Somehow I found this graphic novels aimed for children quite ironic. Hard to explain without not revealing the end of the story.

In the end he got something to eat...a human. Quite ironic since I felt sorry for the poor tiger that was hungry...

But what I can say is that the tiger is hunting food and we get to follow it through the day as it tries is best to get a snack and meanwhile it run into other animals both dangerous and not dangerous.

The art is superb, I'm not sure this graphic novel is suitable for younger children but older children perhaps 7 will probably enjoy this book.

Thank you Diamond Book Distributors and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy for an honest review! ( )
