The premise is decent but is ruined by the strange behavior of characters and me starting to seriously dislike the hero and heroine.
I get it the heroine is supposed to be oh so prim and proper its sickly...but the hero is so uncouth and violent its offputting.
Their attraction just didnt convince, and its a bit too sudden on the part of the heros part.
I also found the lack of supporting characters strange, well,I mean sometimes the author will have the doctor character pop in,or some scenes with the townspeople. But no one really interacts with the heroine,no neigbours visiting or even people wanting to get juicy gossip.
And I can understand the reason for the author choosing to emit these element.
The sexual tension between Abigail and Jesse depends on them being (almost)alone with only each other for company. But to me it would have been more believable if the heroines house was a cabin out in the wilderness far from the nearest neighbour.
And the so called love triangle hardly warrants being called as such.If the character of Melchior could have been more bland its hard to see how that could have been achieved.
And I really did not like the scene with the gun.Since when does the combination of held at gunpoint kissing counts as sexy? For some rapists maybe, but I dont think thats the authors usual reader.
Maybe this just wasnt the best Lavyrle Spencer book for me,I would be willing to give her another try.
The writing was after all not truly horrible.Just the characters. ( )
