Too much mush for actual fantasy, not enough romance for romance. Bored. ( ) This review was originally posted on Bookish Things & MoreQuick Thoughts
H.P. Mallory brings humor and the paranormal to the forefront yet again. I liked the setting being in New Orleans. I always think of haunted houses and ghostly things in that city. Peyton is starting over, and meets quite a few new people in her new town, including the dead sort. Century old crimes are being brought up as she restores the old house left to her by her aunt. There is definitely some mystery and shenanigans to cleanse her house. Those don't always turn out the way Peyton is hoping. The romance is light and flirty. Whether it be with the hot contractor she has working on her house, or the ghost that refuses to leave her house. All in all, it's a fun listen and will have you giggling or shaking your head at the mess Peyton seems to fall into. I didn't pay anything, and reading from start to finish only took a few hours, but I still feel cheated. There are so many other better written ghost stories out there! I note from the publisher's name that H.P. Mallory is probably more of a romance writer, but I was expecting so much more from the blurb than a cheesy Harlequin novel. 'Heroine' Peyton is ridiculously immature, hunk next door Ryan is completely unbelievable (and unattractively creepy, dressing Peyton in short dresses and bestowing a pet name on her after about a day), and the 'supernatural' element of the plot, second to the 'lust at first sight' romance, seems to barely get going before the pages run out. If Mallory were to ditch Ryan, make Peyton stronger and focus more on Drake, I might pick up the story in the second novel, but based on this offering, I'm not really tempted (even for free!) nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Do you believe in love after life? Looking for a fresh start, Peyton Clark becomes the proud owner of a piece of New Orleans history: an Antebellum-era two-story house in the Garden District. It's going to take time and a fat wallet to restore the fixer-upper to its former glory, but after her recent divorce, Peyton could use the distraction. It's not long before Peyton discovers she's moved into the haunted home of a flirtatious paranormal prankster. She's receiving kisses from unseen lips and caresses from a ghostly hand, and soon she begins to have vivid dreams, bringing her face-to-face with the incomparably handsome ghost of Drake Montague. When Peyton grows closer to her general contractor, Ryan Kelly--who is as charming as he is alive--the chill in the air could only suggest Drake's jealousy from beyond the grave. But even though she's definitely attracted to and interested in Ryan, Peyton also can't get Drake out of her dreams, or her heart, as she begins to uncover the frightening truth behind his death a century ago...
