It's a certain style, a certain pace and certain kinds of leads. If you like the brand, go for it. This book lives up to the brand. ( ) I'm not sure exactly how I would categorize this novel. There's plenty of romance in it, but it's not just a romance either. The first part of the book is almost a classic suspense thriller (with a little medical thriller thrown in), and the second part is more of a traditional romance with a bit of politics thrown in there as well. I usually dislike stuff that goes too far into the political stuff, but for most of the book even the politics were oddly interesting. It's the story of Max. She's a Navy Lieutenant Commander who's also a doctor. And Rachel, an aid worker in Somalia who's also the daughter of a high profile politician, although we don't find out who exactly until very near the end of the book. Also to add an interesting twist, Max's service is supposed to be almost up when the book starts. Then she and her unit get called to save Rachel and the rest of the aid workers and it all goes down hill from there. The mission going FUBAR and even one of her unit getting shot. It was an interesting novel for sure. There were parts I wasn't sure about-- narrative wise. Sometimes it seemed overly tilted towards Rachel, even though it wasn't from her point of view. So, Max just has to trust Rachel, but it doesn't seem to work the other way around?" Still, that was just a small thing. Overall I loved the plot and as usual for a Radclyffe book it was pretty well written (sentence/word wise) of course. I got this advanced galley through Netgalley on behalf of Bold Strokes Books. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
