The beginning is so powerful and gives you an immediacy to feel for Eve, a little for Jake but more for her. As the novel goes it experiences a lot of changing back and forth in tempo and pace that made it a little harder to fully immerse into. I felt the book had a wonderful sense of realism with strong characters and an easy emotional pull. Every single scene was so charged and so easy to fall into it worked wonderfully together, but there were things that pulled me out in some instances. I didn’t feel much of the urgency or the desire to want more from Jake and Eve as the story went. It was very slice of life and while very well written, seemed to lack a real strong push in the plot aside from Jake simply wanting another chance. Character: Eve- Eve is a great leading lady. Her emotions are intense and very reliable for that of a real woman. She was scorned horribly by Jake and yet everything she allowed to occur in the present wasn’t frustrating, it was rather beautiful and understandable. Jake- Jake is one of those hate to love them characters. He makes an almost unforgivable move in the book’s beginning. The rest of the book is spent with him repenting and us only getting glimpses of who he was versus who he is. Personally I'm broken and uncertain, but mainly...I'm angry. Falling in love with Jake was the easiest thing I'd ever done, losing him was the hardest, and giving him a second chance might just cost me everything. ***Alexis Anne novels are explicitly romantic. You will find intense stories of love, passion, and self-discovery, alongside intimately detailed encounters that can only occur when two people are falling hopelessly in love. The characters were likeable and relatable. Eve is trying to get over the guy in her past... She is content spending countless hours at work and building relationships with men who will never compare to her one true love. When Jake, her ex, shows up at her house her world is turned upside down. Her feelings are torn and she can't decide if she wants to let her guards down... Together they embark on a second chance at love.
The Storm Inside kept me interested through the whole book. Jake was the sole reason. He was damaged, yet dominant... controlling, yet caring... sexy & successful. Him and Eve's romance had a real feel. Things weren't always perfect. There were struggles they had to overcome to make their relationship work.
While I liked the story a lot I would have liked to see more of the family drama instead of just retellings of it. There were also parts that felt wordy... All in all I recommend this book to all mature readers. It was sexy, consuming, and entertaining. (
