After having escaped from a few juvie prisons, 15-year old Will Drake is sent to maximum security version on a remote oil rig. Will narrowly escapes a confrontation with the prison bully, and is assigned the worst possible job, mucking the pipes. However, he defends his cellmate, who in turn helps Will remove his tracking device so Will can work on his escape plan as well as discover what the privately-owned prison operator is really doing in its remote location. I liked the backstories of the characters, but found Will's character very uneven. 3.5 stars. The rig is a suspenseful , thriller that will keep the readers wanting to know what happen next. A fifteen year old African-American boy named William Drake , who comes from London with a very troubled pass. Has history from two other juvenile facilities where he has the reputation of escaping, he has now met his match when entering the Rig. The Rig is a maximum security facility located on an oil drilling platform in the middle of the Arctic Ocean. He plans to escape his worst nightmare and biggest challenge he has never face before till now. The book connects with students learning about the type of genres when learning about literacy. Have you ever read about a fifteen year old kid that has made a career of breaking out from high-security prisons? Well that is exactly what The Rig is about. Fifteen year old Drake has gotten himself into a specialist juvenile holding facility in the middle of the Arctic Ocean. However, Drake quickly realizes that this facility isn't what it seems. The Warden is obsessed with Crystal-X, which when is exposed to humans, gives them superpowers. Drake is fighting for his freedom....will he survive? I really enjoyed reading this book because the author, Joe Ducie, had very suspenseful language that kept me reading. Even after the climax, the author held me in suspense. When reading this book I thought of it like a puzzle that you know how it will end but you don't know you will get there. However, I give this book 4 stars because some ideas didn't make sense, such as why the Warden wasn't able to use the Crystal-X for more power. The Rig is a maximum security prison in the middle of the ocean for juvenile offenders. Will Drake is sent there after he escapes from three other prisons. With a security tag around his wrist and hours spent cleaning out the sewerage pipes of the Rig, Will is desperate to escape the inhumane treatment. His cell mate Michael Tristan has been jailed for computer fraud and he lets slip that he can unlock the security tag. Step one is accomplished but how on earth will he make it back to dry land? With the help of Tristan and a female prisoner, Drake hatches a risky plan. But in his preparations he discovers a deadly secret in the waters below the Rig. Engaging book with a great premise and believable setting of an old oil rig now being used as a prison. It was all going well until the author introduces us to the strange blue glowing material at the bottom of the ocean. Not sure if young adult readers will buy into the sudden supernatural twist. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

This book was a very interesting story reminiscent of the Lockdown series, but with a supernatural twist that shows up about half way through the book. The main characters are not unique or unusual in any way, but they are likable enough to make them people to root for. Overall, a fun adventure that can be enjoyed at any age. ( )
