An abandoned old house in a small town northeast of Houston is the site of a second murder, eerily similar to a supposed cold case of fourteen years earlier. FBI Agents CJ Johnston and Paige Riley are dispatched to find the link between the two homicides. The team, including Ice and Billy, find the case to be anything but cold. For CJ and Paige, juggling the investigation while trying to keep their love affair a secret proves to be as hard as uncovering long-buried clues.… (altro)

Great story! I'm not into paranormal, but this series is making me want to broaden my reading categories. I liked this story more than Keepers of the Cave. I'm not sure why because ax yielding Edith from this story is a girl scout compared to knife yielding Mother Hogan from [b:Keepers of the Cave|13236357|Keepers of the Cave|Gerri Hill|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1371322461s/13236357.jpg|18433882]. I really like the characters in this series. They are dedicated FBI agents with a sense of humor even though the things they investigate fall short on the humor side. I read this more for the ghost story but found a budding well done romance along with it. I don't usually care for romances but this one didn't overshadow the paranormal story line. The book is rather short...288 pages...wish it had just been a tad longer. I'm looking forward to book 3 in this series.

I should have added this when I originally reviewed the book. While the story and the investigation are really good...Some people may find the romance controversial or even offensive. Just thought you should be warned before spending money for the book. ( )

Good book. Enjoyed the character development and did not have to read the first book in series to enjoy. Although, I do want to read that one. ( )

I liked this book, the second in the CJ & Paige series, even better than the first one. Like in the first book it was about two pairs of FBI partners, CJ and Ice, and Paige and Billy. And at the story of this book Paige and CJ are trying to keep their relationship a secret.

The two pairs as a team get assigned to see if a child's death by supposedly a haunted house is connected to four other missing/presumed dead boys from fourteen years previously.

They have to work with the county's sheriff and deputies including one named Brady who annoyed me just as he annoyed the FBI characters. And eventually they find they feel the need to solve both the old and new mysteries.

I got into the plot much faster than in the first book, and like in the first book the characters were just awesome. IT was also a little bit less supernatural. And weirdly enough the supernatural in this book fit in with the rest of the mystery even better than in the first book.

It was a good (if teensy tiny bit predictable) mystery, a great romance, and a nicely supernatural and suspenseful novel. ( )

If you liked Keepers of the Cave you will love this book. I actually found it to be even better than Keepers of the Cave. I learned in reading this, don't read spooky books at night, in the dark, when it is windy out. I think the relationship between Ice, Billy, CJ, and Paige is great. The flirting between Paige and CJ in public was hilarious. I hope that there are more books in this series. ( )
