Readers pick up nonfiction books to learn something. They pick up novels to feel something: love, fear, joy, grief, elation, frustration, happiness, desparation, anger, despair, or determination. We write novels to give readers a vicarious emotional experience. They want to feel what our characters feel, weep when they weep, rejoice when they rejoice. Most of all, readrs want to learn what our characters learn -- a memorable lesson to enrich their lives. The author explains how novelists can do all these things by writing to evoke emotion in the reader. Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |

No frills, bells or whistles here. This is a short little book, and rather than self-aggrandize, it gets right to the point about how to add additional emotion to your writing without seeming melodramatic or corny. It is a useful guide to get the job done, quickly, without having to wade through 300 pages worth of blather, and I liked it enough that I will most likely be purchasing additional books in this how-to series.
