I'm sure I'm alone in saying I read this without ever having read a whole book by Cassie Clare. Some of the world references flew over my head, of course, but I understood enough to really enjoy the story. I can remember what little I've read of City of Bones and the writing here is far superior with some excellent touches of humour and some great fun scenes at the beginning as Magnus flirts with everything that moves and we're introduced to a mermaid - my new creature obsession. Clare and Brennan's story of discrimination poorly justified by tradition would have benefited from richer characterization (I'm thinking of Edmund in particular) but the soul of the heartbreaking story is conveyed in a surprising few number of pages. I don't know what happens in the other books - of which there are many so I'm sure this is answered in a myriad of ways - but I do hope someone at some point rebels against the deeply prejudiced system we're shown here. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Vampires, Scones, and Edmund Herondale is narrated by Andrew Scott. Holy hotness does he have a sexy voice. Scott has been in many movies and televisions series. If you're a fan of Sherlock, Scott plays Sherlock's arch nemesis, Jim Moriarty. Scott is by far my favorite narrator of this series. He has a voice that was made for this. His cadence and tone was perfect. I hope Andrew Scott will narrate more books.
My thoughts on the book:
This is the third book in the Bane Chronicles. Magnus is attending peace talks between the Shadowhunters and the Downworlders in London during Victorian times. While there he meets Edmond Herondale who is a Shadowhunter. Edmond is in love, but the woman he's in love with is very complicated. Magnus also meets the beautiful vampire Camille. She is charming and Magnus is very attracted to her. While at the peace conference Magnus sees the good and bad of both sides of the parties.
So far, I'm enjoying this series. I love seeing how Magnus interacts with people in his life. In this book particular, I really enjoyed the chemistry of the characters. I also liked seeing the dark sides of certain characters as well as the good in others. I love how complex these characters are. It's never as it seems. I can't wait to see what Clare has in store for Magnus next.
