Along the banks of the small Leland River, Fishtown is a modest assemblage of weathered shanties, a fishery, and two commercial fishing boats. It is also the only remaining fishing village of its kind. The Great Lakes were once lined with many such "fishtowns," where small, usually family-run fishing operations using small boats harvested from the freshwater bounty of the Lakes.
