I love her case studies--absolutely hilarious. I never would have thought about comparing failed relationships with fairy tales. But it works!! I was disappointed when the sex scene hit at 94%. I was hoping that this book would be clean. Frankly I think the storyline would have been better without it. While I am glad that I read the book, I am not sure if I will reread it. 3 stars, fun light and romantic, it could have been a solid 4 if there wasn't so many rehashing of the stupid rules and then the detailed story behind each one. The main character Darby was just so irritating to me, her stubborn opinions and judgemental attitude rubbed me wrong. The story was drowning in her past relationships- it was too much Cinderella Screwed Me Over is a great read. It’s fun, light, and the case studies had me laughing so hard. I never thought I’d like a character that was so dead set against love, but Cindi Madsen did a great job of making me love Darby. Darby is a fun character. She hasn’t always been against the idea of falling in love, but after getting burned so many times, she decides it’s just not worth it. Darby tries so hard to keep herself in check with her rules, but meeting Jake completely messes with her. She feels a connection between them, but is terrified to pursue it. It doesn’t help that her best friend is getting married. Darby does her best to balance her ideas toward a relationship with Jake, her job, and helping her BFF plan her wedding while trying not to fall apart. Jake is such a great guy. Everyone, myself included, always likes the bad boys, but he’s one of the good ones. Almost too good to be true, but I fell hard for this character. He just makes it so dang easy to like him. I loved Darby’s case studies. Every time she things she could be falling for Jake, she remembers a case study she did on a prior boyfriend. I couldn’t stop giggling with the connection to each of the Disney princes. I actually share some of the same thoughts as Darby. I love me some Disney cartoons, but they seriously set unrealistic ideas of love to young girls. I always like seeing a character grow, and Darby does just that. She is terrified of some of the things that she wants to try, but has to learn to realize her own self-worth. I think that has a lot to do with why I love her so much. Also, I adore the fact that Darby has such a great relationship with her family. I think that’s important, and her banter with her brother was amazing. So, yeah, that got kind of rambly. Sorry about all the disconnected thoughts, but Cinderella Screwed Me Over was a fun read. I think all contemporary readers will love this book. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
Darby Quinn has a bone to pick with Cinderella. Burned one too many times by ex-boyfriends, Darby has lost all belief in the happily-ever-after that the fairy-tale princess promised her. She's sworn off love, Prince Charmings, and happy endings, and she's happy about it. Really. Or at least she was...until she met Jake, her gorgeous neighbor and the manager of her favorite restaurant. But Darby has rules about dating, ones she's refined from her years spent with so-called "princes," and starting something with Jake would break all of them. Charming, fun, and unwilling to give up on her, Jake doesn't fit any of the profiles Darby has created from her case studies of ex-princes-gone-bad. Finally presented with her own Prince Charming, can Darby take a chance on a happily-ever-after? Full of wit and sarcastic humor, Cinderella Screwed Me Over proves that sometimes the perfect love, like a perfect pair of shoes, is just within your grasp. Initially, it was the title that grabbed my attention, but once i read the first few lines I knew I couldn't pass this one up.
Having grown up with the same Disney movies I can totally relate to how she feels about those fairytale romances and the unrealistic views they created in regards to relationships. A lot of Darby's opinions on love actually mirror my own. This (for the most part) can be blamed on those Disney princes we're introduced to at such a young age..and all of those romantic comedies as we get older.
Anyway back to the book, I enjoyed the portions dedicated to how the different Disney prince's compared to Darby's ex-boyfriends and what it was that caused her to create all of her rules in the first place.
My favorite parts had to do with Jake though. Now there's a man worth keeping. Their banter was entertaining and it was obvious there was some serious chemistry between them (despite how much Darby fights it). The fact that he sticks by her makes it hard not to love him.
The other characters were great as well and I liked that it was a pretty quick, light read. A book that I have no doubt I'll be re-reading someday.
When it comes down to it, while no man can compare to a Disney prince (I mean nobody can be that perfect) it doesn't mean there isn't still some great guys out there. Sometimes you just need to weed out all the bad ones first.
I think Darby's final conclusion says it all.
"That's when it hit me. I had to go through a lot of bad relationships first, but I'd finally found him. My very own Prince Charming. Turns out they do exist."
