Interesting mystery that takes place in Kenya. Learned a lot about the people there. Found the main character very interesting. Will definitely read more in this series. ( )

Read this while on holiday in Kenya so made everything very relevant. Super characterisation and a tense plot. Also admirably illustrates many of the issues facing modern day Kenya; Nairobi in particular. Look forward to reading the next instalment. ( )

I got this from Waterstone's to review. It is a novel set against the 2007 Nairobi elections about the murder of a prostitute.

While I enjoyed this book and in particular the twist near the end it tried too hard to cover both the election and the murder ending up doing neither of them justice!

I enjoyed Mollel the Maasai detective as a character and as he develops in future books should be very interesting to learn about what drove him to leave his village.

There were too many cliches. especially in regards to the portrayal of the church which is a pity.

To conclude this book promised much but failed to deliver although I have hopes for the series. ( )

A murder detective story with the novelty of being set in Nairobi rather than New York or London. The setting gives it interest but, as with many detective novels, coincidence and amazing insight play a strong role in the plot line. You also get the impression, also common these days, that the author has an eye on a TV series. Action and plot twists come regularly and the whole thing is over in just enough time to make an hour's episode. ( )
