The main purpose of this book is to share with readers the life and journey of Anne Frank, especially during World War II. Though the pictures are black and white, the book does a well job in making it interesting with color, headings, and bullets. For example, “Who Was Anne Frank?,” is blue and red in big bubble letters. This helps readers easily identify information and understand what the next passage is going to be about. I also appreciated on how the book offers small text boxed with the heading, “Words to Know.” This text box offers in-depth information on words such as “Nazis.” The book offers the definition. The author states, “Nazis: A group of people who followed the ideas of a German leader named Adolf Hitler.” The author also provides direct quotes from Anne Frank, which I thought was a good idea because the book is a biography. Adding more onto that, the book also has a glossary of terms on the back of the book. There are defined terms in the glossary such as “concentration camps.” I like this book and find it to be a very good resource for a subject like Social Studies. I though this book was a great book. It was a mixture of informational and biography. It was a biography because it showed the life of Anne Frank. Also, the pictures were great. They were real pictures from Anne Frank’s life and also real pictures from World War II. The book was also an informational book because it teaches the reader a little about World War II. I liked that It helps the reader with words that are unfamiliar and helps pronounce them. For example the word Nazi (Not-see) has a pronunciation next to it and same with the word annex (an-eks). The main theme of this book is to teach the reader about Anne Frank and World War II. Summary: This is a biography telling the story of Anne Frank in a way for children to understand. Personal Reaction: Another great way to start young children on biographies. I prefer this one because it provides lots of pictures for the children to enjoy. It is on third grade level but seems to be an easy read. Classroom Extensions: 1. This would be a great book to read to the class when we study the Holocaust. 2. I would ask the students to do more research on Anne Frank and find some information to share with the class that they might not have discussed in the book. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
