But underpinning that is an interesting story about responsibility.
I’ll always remember this book of Ryan’s for the other aspects he covers. First off, the fact that with these inherited “jobs” comes an incredible restriction to their ability to live the life they want to live.
In the book, Ryan makes a few hard hitting statements through the characters POV about sex, monogamy, three ways, love and lots of aspects m/m romance readers like to be prudish about. Pointing out that two guys can be in love and still enjoy consensual sex with another willing person.
I loved the delightfully drawn depictions of their visit to the two confirmed bachelors, battling old age and illness. The lessons they learned from them.
Yeah, there’s a lot of “tell” and at times the editing could be better, but his writing is good enough to make me forget those minor lapses.
I enjoy reading Ryan’s books, just like I enjoy reading Kim Dare. Light fluff reading for fun. I like the fact that Ryan’s books have a longer story arc with more character development and spend time developing interesting secondary characters. There is a realism in the stories that I enjoy, even if the characters are not your average guys.
