To survive, they must embrace what they most despise . . . in themselves and each other. Mitch Turner is everything women want most in a man-charismatic, successful, drop-dead gorgeous. Except he's not a man-he's a monster. The only way Mitch can protect others from his monstrous side is to stop them from getting too close...that and a 7x7 foot cage. Isolated by his genetic curse, he spends his life hurting people emotionally, driving them away before Hyde can harm them physically. But, after a night of the best sex Mitch has ever had, he realizes that might be impossible. Except the woman he wakes up with claims she doesn't remember any of it. Eden Colfax is everything men want most, men other than Mitch, that is. She's kind, honest to a fault and sickeningly sweet. To rid herself of the monsters that haunted her broken childhood, Eden doesn't lie, doesn't curse, and definitely never wakes up naked in strangers' beds...until the day she does. Then the flashbacks start-places she's never been, people she's never met, blood she's never spilled. She discovers she's split into two parts-the woman she thought she knew and another who is capable of anything. And the only person with any answers is the one man she never wants to see again. What neither of them know is that someone is watching them both, manipulating them, determined to see just how evil the two of them really are. And when the truth begins to seep through the cracks, leaving them nowhere to turn but each other, they will be forced into a partnership neither had expected. Because in life, who you trust is as important as who you are. And when you can't even trust yourself, sometimes the only person you can rely on is the last person on Earth you should be falling for. *** This novel is intended for adults only, as it includes lots of cursing, descriptive sex, biting sarcasm, and themes similar to those in Stevenson's Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, from which this story was inspired.… (altro)

I decided to read this after I read some raving reviews and I have always been fascinated by the Jekyll and Hyde story. But this book was just a major let down.

I felt the story was hard to follow and the characters seemed inconsistent and unlikeable, especially Eden who was cast as this good girl in one moment only to turn cynic and hard in the next. And I am not talking about when she transforms into Chastity.

And Mitch just seemed like a sleazy jerkass to me.Ugh

Also the sex scenes just plain weirded me out and werent very sexy at all.

Twist to modern day Jekyll and Hyde involving both sexes. Clinical trials are under way that have Mitch and Eden in the darkness as to their troubles. Mitch is aware of his dark side and controls it. Eden thinks she is only sleep walking and needs a caretaker to help keep her safe. But what they don't know is that they are being manipulated and pushed towards each other for a reason. ( )

The entire time I read this I didn't know where it was going and now that it's over I still don't know (darn cliff hanger) But I sure want to find out so I supposed I need to get my hands on the second part soon. ( )

Why is this book so highly rated???

I got as far as page 255 so nearly 3/4 through.

What finally did me in was their four day sex marathon ending somehow in them both convincing themselves that other other has realized they just aren't good enough for the other despite not a single negative word said against each other. In fact they were both seemingly smitten and acting as such. It gets all drawn out into this big drama of them saying good bye yet not wanting to say good bye but they are just *SO* unworthy of the other...ARGH! WTF?

That was just the icing. The entire book was a struggle to get through because all characters had dialogue more fitting to a bunch of teenagers and their behavior was odd and inconsistent during pretty much every encounter.

For example at one point Eden goes to Mitch's office to confront him and in the span of a fairly brief conversation she goes from mad to sarcastic to threatening tears to mad again then speaking perfectly calmly before storming out of the office. Wow. Are you sure you're not a 14 year old because I thought only teenage girls could run through that many emotions in a single conversation. And it happens constantly with all the characters throughout the book.

There was absolutely no reason for the characters to fall in love. Mitch was a jerk to Eden through the entire first half of the book and yet somehow because he wasn't a complete a-hole to her once of twice she falls for him and he in turn falls for her despite her being nothing but a whiny brat all the time?

I hated them both. In fact, I hated all the characters. There was nothing redeeming about any of them. They all spoke and acted likely bratty teenagers.

And the plot! The idea of the story sounded like it had possibility. It was a bit out there and I definitely was turned off at the whole Mitch being a jerk to vent his anger to control the Hyde within...whatever, I tried to overlook that bit of ridiculousness, but 3/4 through the book and NOTHING HAPPENS. OK, to be fair at the start as Eden struggles to understand what is wrong with her, that made the story move. But then she does understand...and nothing. Just bickering, dramatics, and terrible dialogue but no story development in at least a hundred pages now.

I'm done. I have absolutely no desire to finish this book. It's been a long time since I've disliked a book this much and I blame the inexplicable rave reviews that had me going into this with much higher expectations than the book clearly deserved. ( )
