If you're a Regency purist avoid this book. Some writers shouldn't tackle an era about which they have no clue. This Regency-set historical romance is so full of anachronistic behavior and language you can drive a tank through them. Much of the dialogue sounds like it's straight out of a contemporary romance, the randy behavior of all the main characters is not to be believed. They say you should write about what you know - the author's background in law. Maybe she should try writing a romantic suspense novel and stop mucking up the Regency era. But what do I know? She sells books, I only read them. ( )

It is very hard to follow the motives of each character in this novel. As the motives ultimately determine the outcome, the reader becomes bogged down in the minutiae of the different players.

Luke wants to be part of the ton, but then he doesn't. Helen is part of the ton, but then she doesn't want to be. Robert is a wimp, but then he isn't. Patricia acts/dresses like a man, but then she doesn't.

I care, then I don't.... ( )
