The Boston Tea Party was not an actual tea party! The British government was wanting to have the United States pay back the money they lent for the French and Indian War. They decided to tax Americans in a tax called The Stamp Act. This tax was on all paper items; every newspaper, legal documents, etc. The colonists were not happy with this decison because they didn't even have a representative in the English Parliment. There were many marchers, protest, and rebellions about this tax. On the night of December 16, 1773 many young boys from Boston secretly boarded the ships that had tea. They threw the tea into the ocean as a sign of ulitmate protest.

I really enjoyed learning about one of the greatest protest of our history. The Boston Tea Party brought all the citizens together for one common goal! It was inspiring and made me proud to read that Americans could work together to actually make a change in government. I would recommend that ALL students read this book!! It is always good to read about our American history. In current times of fighting and horrible tweets, it is important that students learn that once upon a time Americans worked together for change.

In my opinion this is a very resourceful informational book catered to 3rd and 4th graders. The characters and portrayal of people during this time period are believable and well-developed. This text is very organized and offers a variety of media to explain what the Boston Tea Party was and its impact on the American Revolutionary War. For instance, the time-line at the end and illustrations are a great way to help students visualize information and important elements of this significant event in history. The language and vocabulary are relevant to helping the reader understand the content in this book. The text is organized chronologically to also provide the reader with an awareness to the outcomes of the Boston Tea and what ultimately lead to its occurrence. The big idea/message of this text is to inform. ( )

I liked this book for a few reasons. First I liked the timeline at the end of the book because it tells you all of the important dates and events that were mentioned throughout the book. This helps organize the readers thoughts and understand the points the events happened in history. Another thing is that the illustrations in the book were engaging and helpful to the reader. The illustrations were helpful because the readers could understand what the different places and people looked like. The book also included pictures of the famous paintings that people created to portray what happened during the different event in history. The book was made for readers to learn about the Boston Tea Party and American history in an interesting and engaging way. ( )

I enjoyed this book because it is an easy to understand version of the Boston Tea Party and what led up to this event. The author does a nice job of starting with why the colonists were taxed, and why the colonists believed it was unfair. The book lets readers see why the colonists demanded their basic rights and how they were denied. This book is perfect for curricular connections because it can be paired with the textbook. Often times the history textbook can be dry and reading this book will not only give students a better understanding, but they will enjoy it as well.
