Ok. I was a little shocked with this book! I can’t necessarily reveal where my surprise came and what it was. This was the first book of Nicole Edwards’ I had ever read, so I think I was unprepared for what this book had in store for me.

This is the usual, but very unusual unrequited love story. Zoey and Kaleb have been best friends for over twenty years. They have loved, lusted and fantasized over one another secretly the entire time. The possibilities are endless once they finally start to let those feelings of love and lust fly with one another!

In the midst of their attraction, Kaleb and his brothers are trying to obtain some of Zoey’s land for their new resort they want to build in their small town. Finding away to mix business and pleasure is definitely something that these two need find away to combine successfully.

I have a lot to say about this book, but I do not want to put any spoilers in here, and I think if I mention too much, it will spoil many of the twists this book has in store.

I requested an audio copy of Kaleb: Alluring Indulgence, Book 1 by Nicole Edwards through Audiobook Jukebox in exchange for an honest review. This is an unabridged reading of the book, nearly eight hours in length. As Audiobook Jukebox has specific requests of information to be included in the review, I will to my best to follow their guide while providing a helpful review to those undecided about reading or listening to this book.

I requested this book knowing that it has been on my to-read list for quite a while and I was happy for an opportunity to listen rather than read. The story, the first in a series about seven brothers (which I believe is a spin-off series from her Club Destiny Series) is written in alternating chapters from two points of view, His being Kaleb, and Hers being Zoey.

This is a contemporary romance, heavy on lust and passion between two friends who have been friends for 20 years and who have each decided to no longer keep their feelings for the other a secret. I have briefly skimmed through other reviews of this story in which some reviewers believe this story it too light on plot and too heavy on erotica. I would have to disagree, somewhat. The story does have an uncomplicated storyline focusing on the two main characters, their history and their present, rather than intertwined lives of all primary characters and this is only the first book …. So, yes, the plot is a bit light because the story is straightforward and is not completed by the time the reader reaches the final page. This is just the beginning. About the idea of being “too heavy on erotica”, I would also have to disagree. There are four primary scenes; two involving m/f/m situations and none are gratuitous in their detail. There is no BDSM, but there is exploration between the two that neither had tried in their separate pasts.

Thankfully, the author and/or production company decided to use two readers, Freddie Bates and Elizabeth Grace Saunders, which was perfect! Not only did the two readers lend authenticity by reading the chapters of their gender, the two readers did an excellent job instilling emotion into their voices as dictated by the scene/action of the story. This is exactly what makes this reader a huge fan of audio books… readers/narrators who put passion, anger, joviality, worry, confusion and other emotions into their voice as they read.

Technically, the recording quality was flawless in that nothing about the recording pulled me out of or distracted me from the story – no technical disruptions, no background noises, good flow from the end of one chapter to the beginning of the next, no volume changes between the readers, and excellent emotion from the readers as dictated by the story (have I said that already?!?!?)

I highly recommend this audio book if you wish to listen to passion and romance and the start of a seven-part series. There is a small cliff hanger, but not as it relates to the two main characters – only as it relates to the brother that is the focus of the next book in the series. I can assure you that as soon as I submit this review, I look forward to reading or listening to the next book!
