Damn. I was so psyched about this initially. I mean, talk about an abused, traumatized heroine. But then it just got bad. One, I didn't like the multiple perspectives. There were like six at different points. Unnecessary and confusing. Two, fucking hell did this make me feel gross and hate Hollywood. I like fiction for escapism - this was just freakin depressing and ugly. and third, and most importantly, Damn. I was so psyched about this initially. I like fiction for escapism - this was just freakin depressing and ugly. and third, and most importantly, Becky Lynn Lee runs away from Mississippi from an abusive father and bullying classmates who call her nothing but poor white trash. She moves to California and finds a job in an upscale salon, severing ties with her family back home. She is eventually "discovered" as a model, marries and is making more money than she dreamed she would, but is never truly happy. Becky Lynn does not believe in herself and thinks of herself as that ugly, unwanted, taunted girl from Mississippi.
