On the farm the chickens have caused quite the stir, building a wall shutting the rest of the animals out, but no one knows exactly why. As the story goes on the reader finds that the chickens judge the hedgehog because he was different and blamed him for things he did not do. I enjoyed how the story was suspenseful, I think it would keep children engaged in what was happening in the book and would give them the opportunity to make predictions. The main character development throughout the story is primarily with the chickens where in the beginning they were judging and didn't want anyone that looked unlike them around, but towards the end they learn to be open-minded and accept differences of others. Although the story is about animals, the message can be applied to everyday life about accepting people and embracing differences. Just because something is different or unknown, does not make it bad. While I thought the message and set up of the book was well done, it wasn't one that I would see myself reading again. ( )
