596. Popes Through the Ages, by Joseph S. Bruscher, S.J. (read 8 Nov 1959) This is a magnificent book, containing full-page portraits of every Pope from St. Peter to John XXIII. I used it to memorize the name and years of reign of each pope, and when I went to Rome it was useful to have that knowledge in my head. Unfortunately, unless one drills oneself on such memorization periodically, it slips away and now, in my old age, I no longer can give you, in order, the names of the Popes of the, e.g.,10th century. But I suspect that not many other folk can do so either. But I can still do all right on more recent and less jumbled up centuries. The book, from much use, is not in good condition any more but it is still a valued possession ( )
