Talented author/artist Carin Berger, whose many picture-book explorations of the seasons include The Little Yellow Leaf and Finding Spring, turns her attention here to the beauty and joy of winter, and the result is just lovely. Simple text follows a group of children as they romp and play in the snow, while collage artwork depicts the fun they have and the beauty of the day...

I really love Berger's artwork, which, with its incorporation of various papers and ephemera, always has a gorgeous, textured look to it. I particularly like her use of paper that has incidental text on it, as I have a fondness for conceptual art, and its playful incorporation of writing as a visual, rather than textual element. A Perfect Day is a beautiful example of her work, and is also a lovely tribute to the wonder of winter. As someone who also has a weakness for snowy vistas, I was pretty much guaranteed to enjoy this one. Recommended to fellow Carin Berger fans, to winter lovers, and to anyone looking for simple picture-books with a seasonal appeal. ( )

I checked this book out for my little snow angel...it's not often that NC gets snow, and my little one was excited. This book fit her day, perfectly! ( )
