Fabulous source documents for understanding what motivated the Framers to write what they did-- and what they meant in the context of their time -- particularly with regard to the Bill of Rights. ( ) Fascinating for the first couple of hundred pages; then it's easy to lose interest. Still, it shows the real passion people felt about how the United States should be governed. Most of the arguments against federalism can be seen to have had a lot of truth to them--the loss of states rights and sovereignty that these writers predicted has largely come to pass. Of course, it is possible to see that as a very good thing. The value of a book like this is to be able to go to the source. There are a lot of current historians who write very well, but our founding fathers wrote pretty well too, and it does make you proud to be a citizen of a country started by men who cared about learning and language. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Starting on 25 September 1787 (8 days after the final draftof the US Constitution) and running through the early 1790s, these anti-Federalists published a series of essays arguing againsta stronger and more energetic union as embodied in the new Constitution. Although less influential than their counterparts,The Federalist Papers, these works nonetheless played an important role in shaping the early American political landscape andin the passage of the US Bill of Rights.
