I couldn't wait to read this book when I bought it and devoured it completely. It is a total mindf***k. The only reason that the heroine is saved is because she looks like the hero's dead wife. She lives in fear in the beginning of the book, and I kind of don't blame her for that. I would be freaking out too, especially because of the way she got to the ranch and what it was like when she was first settling in. This is not for the faint of heart, and even some of the more dedicated kink readers may not entirely like the way it ends up, but I think it works. And I'm pretty sure it's not an HEA or even an HFN. But, it works for the book. Well what to say about this book. It starts with the very unlikable 'spoilt brat' of a main character, who longs to be able to see ‘the big sky’, not the small gap between her apartment and the next building. As the saying goes, ‘be careful what you wish for’. We first meet Luke Grainger when his attempt at chivalry fall flat and Veronica is incredibly rude to him. Despite this Veronica can’t help but be attracted to his handsome good looks, he is ‘Marlborough Man’ personified. Over the next few days he seems to be stalking her (in my opinion) and surprise surprise should be close by when Veronica reached rock bottom, none other than Luke, who takes matters into his own hands, and kidnaps her. Veronica finds herself on his ranch literally barefoot in the kitchen, and it is obvious she is to be kept as a ‘sex slave’. It is at this part of the story that some readers may find Luke’s main sexual kink a bit too much to take. I have read about this fetish in other stories before but never have I seen it approached in this manner. Some readers may find this a little tough to take, it certainly shocked me. But all in all, once again Kitty Thomas has written a brilliantly dark story on a par with ‘Comfort Food’. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Veronica Cason lives in a small apartment with no clear view of the sky. It's uncertain which might crush her first: her debt or the buildings squeezed in so tight that they surround her like ominous sentinels. She can't breathe in the city. Her success is a lie, and her debt is coming to collect herâ??unless someone else gets there first. When a stranger offers her a job at a ranch, it feels like salvation, but it could also mean her death if his motives aren't pure. Which door has the tiger behind it? The claustrophobia of the city or ranch life under an open sky?NOTE: This book is dark literary erotica. This work is intended for a mature, adult audience that can handle sometimes uncomfortable them Non sono state trovate descrizioni di biblioteche |

There was a lot of out there kink and actual non consensual sex. Somehow it wasn't actually titillating and not because I was particularly offended by either of those things. But the writing left you more wrapped up in what the heroine was feeling emotionally that what was happening to her body. I wanted a better outcome for her.
The writing was high quality, not amateurish at all. But I think I will not be reading any more from this author. This is my second try at KT and I just don't like where I am after one of her stories. ( )
