I loved this fictional account of Lazarus. The Thoenes are master storytellers and in this book they brought to life the sights, sounds, customs and smells of Jerusalem and it surrounds at the time. I felt as though I was there with Lazarus as he walked amongst his vineyards and went about his daily life with his family and friends. Beautifully written, extensively researched and a compelling read, "When Jesus Wept" was biblical fiction at its best.

Unfortunately, I was a bit bored with this story. I will reread this in the future and let you know how much better I like it.

This was another Audible book for me. ( )

This story details the depth of love and brotherhood between Lazarus and Jesus. Told in first person through Lazarus' eyes, the reader is transported back in time to the vineyards of Bethany and the temples of Jerusalem. I was particularly impressed with the telling of his time in heaven before Jesus called him back to life on Earth.
This was my first book by the Thoenes and I thoroughly enjoyed it. ( )

You can read my full review at Quieted Waters.
This story, When Jesus Wept is a fictional retelling of the life of Lazarus. Although I didn’t go back to the gospels before writing this review, I felt that the Thoenes did justice to what the Scriptures say about Lazarus, although they added a great deal to his story.
