Penumbra1 | Oct 11, 2022 |   The plot was there but it never went anywhere. It just didn't develop. I'm rather sad about it because this writer does have a lot of potential. It just seemed lazy or perhaps they hadn't learned how to plot properly. It seemed more like a story written by a teen girl for her friends than one written by a male unless the author is lying about their name and in the blurbs. It had to potential of being a really good tale but just died because it seemed on effort was put into it. It came out like a bare bones Barbara Cartland with the gender of the breathy little girl changed to a male. Summary:
Mickey’s Duke is the story of Michael ‘Mickey’ Monroe, who landed on the planet of Wilgrin after hastily leaving his home planet of Rodeiro. Mickey is known as a Rodeiron Breeder, a male that can bear children.
On Wilgrin, Mickey is almost beaten by the hate-filled homophobic Carl. Mickey is rescued by the Duke Evander Cavendish who is passing by in his carriage. From this point on, Mickey’s life moves full-speed ahead.
Review :
I enjoyed ‘Mickey’s Duke.’ At only sixty pages, it’s a sweet, fast read with the HEA that I love in my stories. The only thing I wish is that it was longer.
The story mostly focuses on the characters, so there isn't much world building in this, only a few mentions from Mickey as he remembers his past.
Mickey is a humorous character and I liked his reaction to what was happening to him. Evander or ‘Van’ as Mickey sometimes called him, was confident and sexy, but was a bit clueless at times, especially when it came to his son Carl; who happened to be the same homophobic man that attacked Mickey the night Mickey and the Duke met.
There are numerous other characters included in this book that could have their own future stories.
There was a problem with the formatting at the beginning of each chapter. The first letter of the first sentence would not be there. It would later show up further in the first paragraph. I’m guessing it’s something that can be easily fixed.
If you’re looking for a sexy, fast read then Mickey’s Duke might be the story for you. I give this book 3 stars
