I did enjoy this book, but it really made me want to read one of Macaulay's books about castles for older readers. I'm not sure if the illustrations of people were not even a bit rougher than his usual. ( )

Review/Critique: This book gives a rundown of the castle, who is inside, and why its so hard to capture. This informational book was so interesting because of the fun details that were put in. Additionally, it focused on things a young boy might be especially interested in, like toilets and war. Additionally, the pictures were interesting and great visuals to compliment the text. ( )

I was not looking forward to reading this book. I was reading it more out of necessity than anything. I'm writing a novel and part of it takes place in a castle. I googled castle terms, but they were all very confusing. After reading this book, I have a much better understanding of what things are called and learned a few new things.

The author wrote it like a what if kind of story, which really worked to get the information out without boring the reader. I would highly recommend this to children who want to learn more about castles. ( )

Genre: Informational
Summary: This book tells of multiple parts of a castle and how each part works to help the whole stay well kept. It also describes the people who typically worked in each part and how you are to act and things you should do in each part if you were to ever visit a castle.
Media: Water Color, Pencil
Use: This book is definitely for younger readers. I wouldn't read this entire book aloud but it could be good for describing one part of a castle or passing it around so students can look at the pictures. I might use this during a history lesson or have it available in a group project setting where students are drawing castles.
Critque: This isn't the most exciting book, but I definitely think it makes studying the history of how a castle works more comprehensible to young children. The information is short and uses appropriate vocabulary. ( )
