In my opinion this is a good biography about Rosa Parks and her fight for freedom. The book gives background knowledge about Rosa Parks and discusses her refusal to give up her seat on the bus to a white person. I really liked how the author bolded words that the reader may not know, for instance, segregation. The bolded words could then be found in the glossary at the back of the book. This is important in a historical book that discusses terminology that may not be widely known. I also liked how the book was organized. The table of contents broke the book up into sections to help guide the reader. For instance, pages 1-4 were about "meeting Rosa Parks." Giving this background knowledge before delving into her courageous act helps the reader get an idea of what and who they will be reading about. The big idea in this book is that Rosa Parks is a historical figure that helped African Americans earn civil rights. ( )

This is a good book to read to children about segregation. It brings readers through Rosa Park's life, and how she stood up for herself and her race. ( )

Rosa Parks: A Life of Courage, was a great biographical book. I liked how the book began with prompting questions such as, "What does it mean to have courage? Could you be brave in the face of danger? Would you stand up for something that was right?", which would make a child think. These were questions that got a student thinking and wondering about answers to the question. Another characteristic that I liked about the book were the pictures. This book has great pictures that get the main idea that is being discussed across. Sometimes factual information can be boring to sit and read about but this book conveys it in an engaging manner. This book also made emphasis on the idea that there were not only blacks that protested and boycotted but their were white people too. That is an important idea that the book got across. Also, there are some words that children might not understand and they are bolded in the text and listed in the glossary. This book overall was a great book. ( )

I loved this book. I like the text itself because it describes in detail what Rosa Parks did in order to stand up for what she believes in. I also liked the illustrations because they showed two different fountains that said “blacks only” and “whites only”. The size difference of the water fountain was sad because the fountain for white folks was much bigger than the one for blacks. It is a good demonstration of what this time was like. The big idea is that Rosa Parks stood up for herself and for other blacks by fighting for equality. ( )
