Friendship is something very important in life. Author Edward Hemingway wrote about a beautiful friendship between the unexpected, an apple and a warm. This books shows that true friendship has no color or race. this will be a great book in both social studies class about friendship and in an ELA class about creative writing because the students can finish the sentences in many different ways based on their knowledge and imagination. I believe that students will love this book if it was ti be used in writing. ( )

Mac was a kindhearted, happy apple, one who always helped elderly Granny Smith out, and who enjoyed swimming and playing with the other apples in the orchard. Then one fateful day, after sleeping through a rain storm, he found himself playing host to a new friend and companion: Will the worm. Apple and worm had a wonderful time together, but when Mac attempted to rejoin his fruity fellows in the orchard he found that he was rejected as a 'bad apple.'

An entertaining picture-book exploration of the nature of friendship, and of the necessity of standing up to bullies and their demands for conformity, The Bad Apple pairs an engaging narrative with appealing artwork. I particularly appreciated all of the puns and wordplay that Edward Hemingway included here - the aforementioned "Granny Smith" apple, Mac's name, the fact that Will is a "bookworm," the "mean" crab-apples - and found the eventual reunion of the two friends sweet. The illustrations, done in oil paint, are colorful and expressive, with lots of fun little details, like the fact that the pupils of Mac's eyes are apple pips. Recommended to anyone looking for good children's stories about bullying, conformity and/or friendship. Also, to apple lovers... ( )

Bad Apple is a book about friendship. Mac (the apple) meets a worm who crawled in him after a rainstorm. He went back to the orchard and all of the other apples thought he was a rotten apple because he had a worm. By the end of the story, Mac decided he'd rather be a bad apple than not have his worm in his life with him. This book could be for any age child learning about bullying or friendship.

This trade book was a story about an apple and his friend Will. Will was a worm that became best friends with the apple. All the other apples in the orchard didn't want to be friends with the apple and will, because they thought he was a bad apple. Will insisted that the apple would be okay without him, but the apple didn't care what the rest of the apples thought. I gave this book a four out of five stars because I think it would be a great book to read to younger children. The story looked like it was illustrated with water colors or paint. The book used bright colors showing how red the apples were. It made the book more appealing considering it had a happy ending. I would use this in a classroom when talking about friendship. Students should be able to be friends with who they want, and no one should make fun of you for it. ( )

In my opinion, “Bad Apple: A Tale of Friendship” is an adorable picture book for young children. This book teaches children a strong message about friendship. I enjoyed reading this book because of its writing, illustrations, and deep message. This story is about an apple who falls asleep. When he awakens, a worm is on top of him. The two become great friends. However, other apples make fun of the apple because he has a worm friend. They call him a “bad apple” because of it. The worm becomes sad when he sees his apple friend sad. The worm decides that it is best for him to leave the apple. Then the apple becomes sad when he cannot find the worm. The apple realizes that his friendship with the worm is more important than being accepted by the other apples. The apple goes searching for his worm friend. He finds him, and together, they live happily ever after as friends. The writing in this story is very descriptive. For example, “On cloudy days, Mac would search for the perfect pillow of green grass and take a long nap.” The illustrations show detailed pictures of Mac, the apple, and his worm friend having fun together. The illustrations display colorful pictures created by oil pastels. This story broadens students’ perspectives on friendship. This book teaches children to care about their friends and not about what other people think. The big idea is to teach children to remain loyal to the people that they care about. ( )
