This book challenges the reader to emulate Hudson Taylor's life without falling prey to worshiping the man himself. His problems, such as illness, the loss of a child and later his wife and newborn son to cholera, an injury that leaves him paralyzed for almost a year, all show sides of him, including his struggles with doubts and fears. However, Hudson Taylor pushes on in the Lord's strength and grace, serving God and making a difference on the mission field. Christian - 21/2 stars. He felt this book was more for an adult than a child. Julia-3 stars I really liked this book especially when we read Hudson Taylor's personal writings/letters throughout the book. His thoughts on paper are steeped in scripture and love for Christ. I also liked how this story was not just about Hudson Taylor but his godly wife. At times, the book was very detailed in describing things, but I didn't mind that. I loved this biography. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione

Hudson Taylor is one of my favorite missionaries. He had a very practical, straightforward way of understanding and obeying God's word. He truly believed that God is faithful, and so didn't hesitate to attempt things that looked difficult, or even impossible, humanly speaking.
I've always loved that Taylor adopted the traditional Chinese dress before it was widely accepted, let alone expected, of foreigners.
He was also very anti-debt, saying, "I could not think that God was poor, that He was short of resources, or unwilling to supply any want of whatever work was really His." (p 99) Also: "It is really just as easy for God to give beforehand." (p 143)
Above all, Hudson Taylor loved God and wanted all people to know Him. This account of his life and work is encouraging and inspiring and will challenge Christians to reevaluate what they value and how they live. ( )
