An extremely funny novel that still manages to touch upon serious topics such as discrimination, self-image, and bullying. You can't help but love Veena's quirky sense of humour and be proud of her discoveries. A great read for teenagers and adults alike! Lovely humorous story of a teenage Indian girl in a multi-cultural school in Bahrain. Nisha and her friend Unita are wonderfully drawn characters in this modern version of Romeo and Juliet. This will appeal to both teenagers and adults and I confess as an older gent that I laughed at their antics while reading this growing-up comedy. An absolutely hilarious coming-of-age story about a snarky, smart girl who's figuring out where she fits in the world. The multi-cultural school may not be the utopia policy makers might envision, but the way the clash of cultures and religions plays out among the teenage set feels incredibly honest and realistic. And the capers the class gets up to will have you laughing for sure. It all adds up to a short and sweet romantic comedy that both teens and adults can enjoy. I did enjoy the story but it wasn't the greatest book I've read recently. It's been very different from the fantasy I've been enjoying - but its realism was actually kind of nice. I feel like it could have benefited from the main character being a little older but that might just be because she was 15 and I'm 19 but still haven't had my first kiss. This book really was very cute though and it worked very well with its characters, themes, settings but it wasn't too surprising. I did expect the "twist" at the very end. I would still recommend reading this one - especially for tween or teen girls or young women wanting to remember how silly we used to be (because I did that remembering myself 4 years ago). I liked that this book reminds us that different cultures/religions/races/countries/regions might separate us physically but people are people and share common experiences. BRAS, BOYS AND BLUNDERS is such a fun read! Having said that, it touched upon many serious issues about assumptions, discrimination and self-esteem felt by people of all nationalities and genders. Especially those considered non-white and American. However, it did so in a humorous and non-preachy way. Part advice and part common-sense, many adults should be required to read this book in order to better advise and open these sensitive subjects with their children, considering the diverse world we now live in. nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
