Great book for a young reader who wants to know more about football. The book takes you through a game of football with the Dragons vs. Rockets and breaks down the game step by step. It shows the readers the different positions and even a break down of the field. I think this is a good book for a young struggling reader who loves football. ( ) This book may need to be replaced since the rules for professional football has changed quite drastically in the past few years. Professional teams no longer kick off at the thirty yard line. Instead, it is at the forty yard line now. Also, there is a clear bias towards the offense in this book. Each position on the offense is labeled (quarterback, running back, wide receiver, tackles, guards, centers); whereas, positions on the defense are grouped by broader categories (defensive backs, lineman, linebackers). Defense never gets the appreciation they deserve. Aside from that, this book is rather straight forward with its content. Kids learn the basics of football. The game is broken down into its broadest pieces possible. There are no mentions of specific penalties but just penalties in general. Kickers seem to be held in high regard because they always get called "special kicker." There is also a special thanks to Frank Price for his expert review and consultation of the text. It would have been nice if the author gave the credentials for the reader to look him up. But again, this book is outdated so I can't knock Frank for all of the issues. Horn Book (The Horn Book Guide, Spring 2001) These small, square books offer young athletes adequate introductions to football and basketball. Though the attempts to cover the many technical aspects of the sports collide with the books' intended audience, basic terms are defined and overviews of the rules are provided. Gibbons's well-labeled illustrations are limited by their size. Glos. Category: Nonfiction-Sports. 2000, HarperCollins, 24pp, nessuna recensione | aggiungi una recensione
