A short, counting, rhyming read-aloud. A girl's dog runs off with one of her shoes, and they pass increasing numbers of objects on their chase (my favorite is when they run behind pieces of laundry on a line and we see them silhouetted). When the dog scatters some chicks, the mama hens charge; the girl shoos them off, and girl, dog, and shoes return home.

Perfect for a "book break" during Rhyme Time. ( )

I'm discovering that there are some really excellent picture books in the ABCs and 123s genres. Bright, fresh illustrations and interesting themes that make numbers and the alphabet feel original (when you wouldn't have thought they could). ( )

This story is about a dog who steals a little girl's shoe. The girl tries to retrieve it but is unlucky at first. Instead the dog runs away and takes the girl on a counting adventure, through butterflies, hanging sheets and trees. In the end, the girl gets her shoe back and the dog and her are friends.
